The long exhale

Breath is the one relaxation tool that needs no equipment and no room. A longer exhale than inhale, practised briefly and often, settles the day.

Make the exhale the floor

Sit upright on a chair, feet flat, and count the inhale at four and the exhale at six. The exact numbers matter less than the ratio; the longer exhale signals the body to step down from alertness.

Practise for ten cycles after the yoga sequence, before a difficult call, or in the queue at the shop. Breath practised in ordinary places arrives available in difficult ones, which is the entire point.

Do not make it a project

Ten cycles, done honestly, is a session. Adding props, timings, and applications turns a natural function into another task and quietly stops it happening.

The practice ends the way the flowers are changed, the mat is rolled, and the jar is washed: small, repeated, and unphotographed. Relaxation that survives contact with a Tuesday is the kind worth having.
